This Isn’t Good Enough” — Lukman Expresses Frustration Over Opposition’s 2027 Moves

Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has urged opposition parties to strengthen their strategy ahead of the 2027 general election if they hope to unseat the ruling party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Lukman said he wants the APC and President Bola Tinubu to lose power in 2027 but expressed disappointment with what he described as the opposition’s current approach.

The former APC chieftain admitted he was increasingly frustrated, warning that the opposition risks repeating the mistakes that undermined its chances in the 2023 elections.

According to him, efforts to build a united opposition over the past two years were aimed at bringing political leaders together and creating a platform capable of holding elected officials accountable.

However, he lamented that personal ambitions appear to be taking precedence over the broader national interest, a development he believes could weaken the opposition’s chances at the polls.

“Personally, I want the APC and President Tinubu to be voted out of office in 2027. But the way things are unfolding is frustrating,” Lukman said.

He noted that regardless of the outcome of ongoing legal disputes, the opposition appears to be heading down the same path it followed during the 2023 elections.

“When we began discussions about building a coalition almost two years ago, the objectives were clear: unite the opposition and build a political party that can hold elected leaders accountable. Unfortunately, where we are today, I fear we are repeating the same mistakes we made in 2023 while expecting a different outcome,” he added.

Lukman stressed that opposition leaders must put aside personal political ambitions and focus on a common agenda if they intend to present a credible alternative to Nigerians in the 2027 general election.
