Reports suggest that the Defence Headquarters is gearing up to reveal the identities and photographs of a fresh batch of wanted terrorist and bandit leaders on its watchlist. This development comes following the elimination of prominent figures from the previous list and the emergence of new leaders within these groups.
In November 2022, the DHQ had declared 19 bandit leaders wanted, offering a reward of N5 million for each, aiming to incentivize Nigerians to provide crucial information leading to their apprehension.
Among the prominent figures on the wanted list were Bello Turji from Fakai village, Zamfara State; Ali Kachalla, alias Ali Kawaje, from Kuyambara village in Danaadau Maru LG of Zamfara State; Ado Aliero from Yankuzo village in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State; and Halilu Sububu from Sububu village in Maradun LGA, Zamfara State.
Also included were Sani Dangote from Dumbarum village, Zurmi LGA of Zamfara State; Leko from Mozoj village, Mutazu LGA, Katsina State; Dogo Nahali from Yar Tsamiyar Jno village, Kankara LGA, Katsina State; Nagona from Angwan Galadima in Isa Loa area of Sokoto State; Monore from Yantumaki village, Dan LGA, Katsina State; Gwaska Dankarami from Shamushele village in Zuri LGA of Zamfara State; Baleri from Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State; and Mamudu Tainange from Varanda village in Batsari LGA, Katsina State, among others.
However, a source speaking to the PUNCH recently indicated that the military was preparing to unveil a new list of wanted terrorists, with photographs included.
According to the source, work is underway on compiling this new list. “The authorities are compiling a new list of wanted terrorist and bandit leaders, complete with their photographs. We urge Nigerians to collaborate with us to neutralize them, as we’ve done previously. While there may be bounties on them, the exact amounts are yet to be disclosed. Rest assured, the list will be made public soon,” the source hinted.
For further clarification, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, confirmed that work is indeed ongoing on the new list.
