The President made this appeal on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan. The event, held at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Yokohama, was on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the gathering brought together professionals and entrepreneurs from diverse fields. President Tinubu used the occasion to highlight his administration’s achievements and ongoing reform agenda.
Call for Diaspora Contribution
Tinubu described Nigerians abroad as a vital representation of the country’s diversity, urging them to remain patriotic and supportive of government initiatives.
“I am happy to listen to you, and I am pleased to report that many of our people are returning home. Of course, some may choose to stay away for personal or economic reasons, and that is their right. But for Nigeria to grow, your input is crucial. If you stay away, who will build our nation?” he asked.
He stressed that effective leadership combines visionary thinking with practical action, adding that his administration remains committed to ensuring stability, unity, and growth.
Reforms and Achievements
The President outlined several reforms, including improved passport issuance processes for Nigerians at home and abroad. He also noted progress in stabilizing key economic indicators, creating opportunities for investment, and boosting job creation.
On healthcare, Tinubu said his government is working to reduce medical tourism by upgrading local facilities and expanding access to quality services.

Members of the Nigerian community in Japan commended the pace of reforms and pledged their support for the administration’s transformation agenda.
The President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, Emeka Ebogota, expressed gratitude for the meeting and assured Tinubu of their continued cooperation. Other participants included award-winning electrotechnical expert John Ologbotsere, investors, entrepreneurs, doctors, and students.

Wale Tinubu, the President’s nephew, also addressed the gathering, explaining how the government’s reforms have strengthened the economy by enhancing competitiveness, attracting investment, and expanding the stock market.
President Tinubu concluded by urging Nigerians abroad to be good ambassadors, stressing that citizenship is defined not just by holding a passport but by one’s character and commitment to national progress.
