Kunya’s arrest is primarily related to her involvement in the illegal act of spraying money, a violation of Nigerian law. A source from the EFCC revealed to Kano’s Freedom Radio that Murja is currently in the commission’s custody.
The EFCC has been intensifying its crackdown on the widespread practice of money spraying at public events, including parties and birthdays. Recently, other TikTok influencers such as Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris have also been apprehended for similar offenses.
As of now, neither the EFCC nor Murja’s legal representatives have issued an official statement regarding the arrest.
This follows warnings from the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, and Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who recently cautioned Nigerians about Naira mutilation. They addressed the issue at a security workshop held in Abuja, where law enforcement officials discussed the growing concern.
Cardoso shared that recent mystery shopping exercises in key commercial cities like Abuja, Kano, and Ibadan uncovered troubling cases of Naira commoditization, where premiums of 20-40% were charged on banknotes. He emphasized the harm this practice causes to the Naira’s value and national integrity, stating, “Disrespecting our currency undermines our national identity and weakens the Naira.”
