Timi Dakolo: You Need A Thick Skin To Survive The Pressures Of Fame
Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has advised people aspiring to become famous to develop a strong mindset, warning that life in the public eye comes with constant scrutiny, rumours and criticism.
According to reports monitored by Bush Radio Academy, Dakolo gave the advice on Monday after a photograph of him carrying a young girl at an event circulated widely on social media. Some users subsequently speculated that the child was his alleged love child.
Reacting to the speculation, the singer explained that he only carried the girl after she refused to return to her mother during the event. He said he took care of her for the rest of the evening, only to later discover that the photograph had sparked unfounded claims online.
Dakolo described the situation as a reflection of the pressures that come with being a celebrity, noting that public figures can easily become targets of rumours and sensational claims.
He stressed that anyone seeking fame should be prepared for such experiences, as celebrity status often attracts intense attention from the public.
The singer said people in the spotlight are frequently subjected to scrutiny and can suddenly find themselves at the centre of controversies they never anticipated.
Dakolo, who has been active in the Nigerian music industry for more than a decade, urged aspiring celebrities to develop a “thick skin” because fame comes with both recognition and significant pressure.
