Tinubu Administration Implements Phased Start For 37 Buhari-Approved Universities
The Tinubu administration has announced a delay in the commencement of operations for the 37 new universities approved during the previous administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari. Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, revealed this decision following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
He explained that this delay is due to the recognition of the substantial funding required to ensure effective and efficient educational programs for these universities.
Mamman stated, “Several of these newly approved universities were given the green light by the previous administration towards its conclusion. President Tinubu, after thorough consideration, believes that their establishment should be staggered.”
He clarified that this does not imply scrapping the universities but rather a closer examination of their unique strengths and benefits for students.
The new administration’s educational focus is on equipping students with skills that are not only advantageous to them but also contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
The Minister further emphasized that the government is also addressing the challenges faced by states in accessing funds from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
