This initiative was part of the activities organized by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, to commemorate President Tinubu’s one-year anniversary in office.
Earlier in the week, President Tinubu had commissioned the Southern Parkway, one of the legacy projects completed within his administration’s first year.
While the Abuja Metro Station was inaugurated in 2018 by President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister Nyesom Wike had initially announced a two-month period of free train rides to alleviate commuting challenges for FCT residents.
However, during the flag-off of the mass transit rail program, President Tinubu appealed for an extension of the complimentary period until the end of the year. He emphasized the importance of providing hope to the residents of the FCT, urging Minister Wike and his team to consider the extension as a gesture of celebration for the new administration.
President Tinubu underscored his commitment to enhancing the functionality of the federal capital by prioritizing efficient infrastructure. He commended Minister Wike for his exceptional dedication to serving the nation.
The Abuja light rail service project, initiated in 2007 by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, underwent trial operations from September 2018 to March 2020 following its completion
