According to witnesses, amidst the chaos following the accident, stray bullets from a police officer’s firearm struck two bystanders. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victims succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical attention.

Eyewitnesses reported that enraged youths attempted to prevent the driver of the vehicle from fleeing after the accident, aggravated by the injuries sustained by the motorcycle rider.

Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, confirmed the deployment of the State Traffic Section to manage the situation and ensure public safety. However, he noted that the officers faced resistance from some agitated youths, leading to a call for reinforcements.

In the ensuing commotion, one of the officers accidentally discharged a firearm, resulting in the fatal injuries of two individuals. The officer responsible for the shooting has been disarmed, arrested, and detained pending disciplinary measures.
