The commendation came in a statement celebrating Fayose, who marks his 65th birthday on November 15.
Tinubu recalled that Fayose’s initial term was disrupted in 2006 when then-President Olusegun Obasanjo imposed a state of emergency on Ekiti State—an action he referenced directly in his message.
“Although his first tenure faced severe turbulence and was cut short due to the abuse of presidential authority, Fayose remained courageous. He endured the experience with exceptional fortitude and handled the challenges with admirable composure,” Tinubu said.
Despite the setback, the President highlighted Fayose’s remarkable political comeback, calling it one of the most significant in Nigeria’s democratic history.
“He made an extraordinary return in 2014, becoming the first politician to defeat two sitting governors in separate elections,” Tinubu noted.
He went on to describe Fayose—widely known as Osokomole—as a bold political figure with unwavering convictions.
“Osokomole is a man of fearless expression. You always know his stance. His consistency—whether in agreement or opposition—speaks to his strength as a national figure. He says what he believes without hesitation,” Tinubu added.
The President also praised Fayose’s strong grassroots connection, saying his popular nickname Ore Mekunnu (friend of the poor) genuinely reflects his political identity.
“He relates deeply with ordinary people, especially the vulnerable. He understands grassroots politics and has built strong personal bonds with the masses,” he said.
Tinubu further highlighted Fayose’s contributions to Ekiti’s development, noting his achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and landmark projects such as the State High Court Complex and the new Governor’s Office.
