Ogunbiyi, the wife of renowned academic, journalist and entrepreneur, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, marks the milestone on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Ogunbiyi for her outstanding contributions to Nigeria and the international community, particularly in the fields of education, administration, banking, and community development.
Tinubu described her career as one defined by discipline, service, and a strong commitment to personal and professional growth.
He noted that she laid a solid academic foundation in English Language and Educational Administration before transitioning into the banking sector, where she also distinguished herself.
According to the President, Ogunbiyi’s professional journey spans teaching, university administration, human resources management, and business leadership.
“Armed with a first degree from Ibadan and a Master’s in Educational Administration and Supervision, Mrs Ogunbiyi taught English and Social Studies at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode; Lane Middle School, Bedford, New York; and the United Nations International School, New York,” the statement read.
“She spent 10 years at the University of Ile-Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, where she served as Chief Personnel and Administrative Officer across various faculties.
“Mrs Ogunbiyi later worked as Senior Manager at NAL Merchant Bank in Lagos, retiring in 1996 as Human Resources Manager. She also served as Deputy Managing Director at Signal Health Nigeria Limited, a pharmaceutical company, between 1996 and 2001.”
Tinubu said her life reflects a woman who consistently advanced professionally while remaining committed to her family and community.
He also highlighted her strong Christian upbringing, noting that it shaped her values of discipline, faith, and service.
The President added that her position as Iyalode of Remoland places her among a respected lineage of women leaders, noting that she succeeded the late Chief HID Awolowo, wife of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
“As Iyalode of Remoland, Mrs Ogunbiyi succeeded the late Chief HID Awolowo. Her remarkable journey shows that despite decades of dedication to her family, she continued to pursue academic and professional excellence both locally and internationally,” the statement added.
Tinubu further noted that while her husband excelled in academia, journalism, and publishing, Ogunbiyi simultaneously built a distinguished career in education, banking, and business, later engaging in entrepreneurship after retirement.
He described her life as an example of quiet achievement, dedication to family, and public service.
The President prayed for her continued good health, strength, and fulfilment as she celebrates the milestone with family, friends, and well-wishers.
