President Bola Tinubu praises the inauguration of Nigeria’s largest lithium processing plant in Lafia, Nasarawa State, seeing it as a testament to the nation’s appeal for foreign investment. Tinubu expressed his admiration during a meeting with Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, alongside Hi Yongwei, Chairman of Avatar New Energy Materials Company Limited, and Zhenhua Pei, Chairman of Canmax Technologies.

Avatar, a Chinese company, constructed the lithium processing plant, boasting a daily output of about 4,000 metric tonnes, while Canmax Technologies, a prominent Chinese firm responsible for over 30% of global battery material production, revealed a new investment of $200 million for another lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State.

Tinubu welcomed the plant’s inauguration and the announcement of further investment, urging the Chinese firms to prioritize environmental protection, community engagement, and corporate social responsibility as integral components of their operations. He emphasized Nigeria’s potential in solar panel production, highlighting the country’s abundant skilled labor and vibrant economy.

Governor Sule and Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, received recognition from Tinubu for their efforts in ensuring environmental protection and value addition by mining firms. Tinubu assured continued support and encouragement for the Chinese executives, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business.

The Chinese executives expressed satisfaction with their investments in Nigeria and pledged to adhere to mining regulations while fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities to host communities.
