The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has unveiled his plan to facilitate the marriages of 100 female orphans who tragically lost their parents in recent banditry attacks. Sarkindaji made this announcement to reporters in Minna, the state capital, on Friday, emphasizing his commitment to covering the bridegrooms’ dowries and securing all necessary resources for the mass marriage ceremony.
The selection process for the orphaned girls was meticulously conducted from a pool of 170 candidates, sourced from Mariga Local Government Area. Although Sarkindaji did not specify the age range of the girls, he views this initiative, representing his Mariga Constituency, as an integral aspect of his constituency empowerment project, aimed at alleviating poverty.
To ensure the well-being of the female orphans during the ceremony, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and Emir of Kontagora Alhaji Mohammed Barau have graciously agreed to serve as their guardians. The event, scheduled for May 24 in Bangi, the Mariga Local Government Area headquarters, will also be attended by Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board.
