The President outlined plans for three new police formations as supplements to the existing police force. Tinubu emphasized the consideration of deploying forest guards equipped with advanced training, modern technology, and weaponry to enhance security.
In addition to reinforcing security in wooded areas, Tinubu expressed the need to safeguard the solid mineral and marine economic sectors through the establishment of specialized police units. He highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s substantial marine economy, proposing the creation of a dedicated marine police force. Furthermore, Tinubu stressed the importance of protecting the solid mineral sector from illegal activities, stating, “We will have the same in solid minerals to keep the scavengers away. I am ready to invest in security.”
Onanuga expanded on Tinubu’s vision, revealing the President’s plans to acquire and stockpile the nation’s mineral resources. Tinubu reportedly conveyed to the governors, “We will buy our own minerals and keep them in reserves, especially gold, which will be effective in our foreign exchange reserve.” This strategic approach aims to secure valuable resources and contribute to the stability of Nigeria’s economic foundation.
