Tinubu Faces Accountability: Afenifere Demands Commitment To Nigeria’s Restructuring

The Afenifere Pan-Yoruba social-political group has asserted that the framework for restructuring Nigeria is prepared, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, elected under the group’s principles, has no grounds for non-implementation. The group’s Publicity Secretary, Mogaji Gboyega Adejumo, revealed this during a media briefing after the caucus meeting held at the residence of Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Ogun State.

The meeting, chaired by Adebanjo, included key figures like Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Chief Supo Sonibare, Chief Mrs Kofoworola Bucknor, Prince Justice Faloye, Chief Segun Ojo, and Bashorun Segun Sanni. Afenifere’s restructuring proposal advocates for a parliamentary system, urging the Tinubu-led administration to embrace the blueprint.

Afenifere pointed out Tinubu’s past advocacy for restructuring but noted a lapse during Buhari’s tenure due to Northern apprehensions. The group emphasized Tinubu’s accountability as a product of Afenifere, citing his history of legal actions against the federal government during Obasanjo’s leadership to push for restructuring.

The group stated, “Tinubu is there now as the President; he is answerable to us all as a product of Afenifere.” The restructuring report, formulated by a committee led by Oba Oladipo Olaitan, is ready for consideration by the association’s executives and subsequent presentation to the general assembly. Afenifere plans to disseminate the report to enlighten the public on its stance before seeking approval from the National Assembly.
