In a statement released on Sunday, the former lawmaker expressed concern that the early jostling for the vice-presidential slot may divert attention from critical governance issues.
Oyintiloye warned that such political distractions could derail Tinubu’s focus on reviving the economy, tackling insurgency, and addressing decaying infrastructure.
“While the President is working tirelessly to stabilize the economy, defeat insecurity, and fix failing infrastructure, some individuals are busy scheming for 2027. Their noise is not only unnecessary but also potentially harmful to the progress we are trying to achieve,” he stated.
He added, “It’s disturbing to see politicians chasing positions when the next election is still over a year and a half away. Their actions risk slowing down the momentum of the administration.”
Oyintiloye noted that President Tinubu inherited a deeply troubled economy with a staggering debt burden in 2023, and distractions at this point are unhelpful.
“Focusing on who gets what in 2027 or even 2031 is misplaced. What the President needs now is unity, support, and prayers—not endless political scheming,” he concluded.
