In announcing the appointment, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of continuity in managing the nation’s financial systems. He stressed that Ogunjimi’s appointment is a strategic move to strengthen financial governance and ensure the successful implementation of ongoing treasury reforms.

“The role of the Accountant-General is central to the effective management of our nation’s finances,” President Tinubu said. “Mr. Ogunjimi brings vast experience and expertise to the position, and we are confident that he will sustain the momentum of our financial reforms as we work towards advancing the nation’s economic agenda.”

The president also took the opportunity to commend Dr. Madein for her years of dedicated service, acknowledging her significant contributions to Nigeria’s financial management. Dr. Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, was praised for enhancing financial oversight and strengthening the management of the national treasury.

Who is Shamseldeen Ogunjimi?

Mr. Ogunjimi, a seasoned civil servant, is currently the most senior director at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF). With over 30 years of experience in financial management, he has held several prestigious positions, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ogunjimi’s academic background is just as impressive. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting. Additionally, he is a chartered accountant, a certified fraud examiner, a chartered stockbroker, and a certified security and investment specialist. His wealth of experience and professional qualifications positions him well to lead the office in the coming years.
