During the event, Mrs. Nandap described the inauguration of BATTIC as a significant milestone in the modernization of Nigeria’s immigration infrastructure. She emphasized that the complex represents a bold step toward advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation and enhancing national security.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today as we mark this momentous occasion in the history of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the development of our great nation,” Mrs. Nandap stated. “Today, we officially commission the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex—BATTIC—right here at the NIS Headquarters. This state-of-the-art facility is a true reflection of Nigeria’s commitment to digital transformation and national security.”

Mrs. Nandap further explained that BATTIC is not just a building, but a transformative tool for safeguarding the nation’s borders, managing migration, and ensuring national security. The centre has been certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and integrated with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), aligning with global standards.

She highlighted that the complex includes several critical components, including the Command-and-Control Centre for Regular Migration, the NIS Data Centre, the Visa Approval Centre, the Passport Personalization Centre, and the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC) Centre. Additionally, the facility houses a 0.5KW Solar Farm.

“Each of these components has been carefully designed to meet international standards, positioning Nigeria as a leader in migration management and border security,” she added.

Key functions and capabilities of BATTIC include the analysis of Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Records (PNR), which help assess the risk levels of passengers before they even arrive in Nigeria. The centre also identifies suspicious travel patterns, monitors unmanned border areas in real-time, and cross-references travel data with national and international security databases, including INTERPOL.

BATTIC will serve as the central hub for Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, enhancing the country’s ability to manage migration effectively, improve surveillance, and fortify national security efforts.

“In essence, BATTIC will be the cornerstone of our efforts to protect our borders, streamline migration management, and enhance national security. This facility will enable us to monitor and analyze vast amounts of data efficiently and in real-time, making it a powerful tool for the safety and security of our nation,” Mrs. Nandap concluded.
