Gbajabiamila, who previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, disclosed this while speaking at a political gathering.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accused him of allegedly supporting Desmond Elliott during the controversial move to remove Obasa as Speaker.

It would be recalled that some members of the Lagos Assembly had earlier impeached Obasa before the decision was eventually overturned following presidential intervention.

Speaking on the matter, Gbajabiamila said he repeatedly advised Desmond Elliott to distance himself from the impeachment plot, but the lawmaker allegedly ignored the warning.

He further revealed that after receiving a call from the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), he urged Elliott to publicly dissociate himself from the move against Obasa, but the request was allegedly rejected.

“I almost lost my position as Chief of Staff last year because of Desmond Elliott,” Gbajabiamila said.

He explained that President Tinubu invited him to his residence in Abuja during the height of the Lagos Assembly crisis and questioned him over Elliott’s alleged involvement.

“Mr President told me, ‘I hear this Desmond is your boy, the one we handed over to you,’ and I admitted he was close to me,” Gbajabiamila recounted.

According to him, Tinubu also accused Elliott of being among those fueling the crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
