In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu lamented that Okupe’s demise came at a time when his vast experience and wisdom remained invaluable to the nation.
Extending his condolences, Tinubu sympathized with Okupe’s family, the Iperu-Remo community, the people and government of Ogun State, and all those affected by his passing.
Reflecting on Okupe’s contributions to national development, Tinubu highlighted his numerous roles in public service and politics.
“President Bola Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of Prince Doyin Okupe, a distinguished medical doctor, politician, communicator, and strategist who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“A prominent son of Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, Prince Okupe served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan and Special Assistant on Media to President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“His political career, spanning over three decades, saw him serve as National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) and play key roles in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later as National Leader of the Accord Party.
“In the 2023 elections, he notably served as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign.
“Beyond politics, Okupe made significant contributions to the medical field as co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre, Lagos, and as the publisher of Life Mirror, a health-focused newspaper.
“President Tinubu remembers Dr. Okupe as a fearless and articulate advocate for national progress, mourning his loss at a time when the country still greatly needed his expertise and insight.
“The President also sympathizes with the government and people of Ogun State, particularly the Iperu-Remo community, who have lost an esteemed leader and son.
“He acknowledges Okupe’s lasting impact on his home state and the deep void his departure leaves in the hearts of those who knew him.
