Tinubu emphasized the necessity of taking comprehensive action to address the challenges posed by insurgencies worldwide, asserting that terrorism poses a significant threat to democracy, development, growth, and prosperity.

He also underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of terrorism and providing for the basic needs of the population, especially in regions affected by violence and terrorism.

The President expressed his concerns regarding the limited resources available for addressing these challenges and stressed the importance of consistent support from organizations like the UN.

In response, Voronkov commended Nigeria’s contributions to global counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged the country’s framework for prevention, mitigation, and reconciliation, which had proven valuable in tackling terrorism.

He revealed that the UN was planning a Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja, scheduled for April 2024. The summit would have a strong focus on African nations and their shared agenda in addressing international terrorism.

Voronkov assured President Tinubu of the UN’s continued commitment to working closely with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
