The talks took place between the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Northwest Development Commission and Senator representing Jigawa North-East, Dr. Babangida Hussaini, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai. Senator Hussaini described the meeting as “productive and fulfilling,” noting that it focused on practical areas of collaboration that could deliver direct economic gains for both Nigeria and Jigawa State.
He explained that the initiative aims to enhance the export of key agricultural products—such as sesame seeds and hibiscus flowers—improve market access for farmers and traders, and strengthen commercial ties capable of stimulating local economies. According to Hussaini, plans are already in motion to establish strong and sustainable trade connections between major Nigerian markets—including Gujungu Market and the Maigatari International Border Market—and strategic markets in China.
The meeting also discussed opportunities for Nigerian youths to take part in advanced training, technological programmes, and capacity-building initiatives in China, including postgraduate studies that would help grow the nation’s skilled workforce. Senator Hussaini expressed confidence that these emerging partnerships will open new pathways for young Nigerians to innovate and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He extended gratitude to Ambassador Yu Dunhai for his dedication to enhancing cooperation between both countries and reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing strategic alliances that will foster long-term progress for Jigawa North-East, the Northwest region, and the country at large.
