Tinubu Taps Chukwuemeka Chukwu For Second Term As Enugu REC, Sparking Political Buzz
President Bola Tinubu has formally submitted a request to the Senate for the confirmation of Chukwuemeka Chukwu as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Enugu State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, in line with Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In the letter, President Tinubu highlighted that Chukwu, who holds a doctorate, has been nominated for a second and final term as Enugu State’s representative on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The President urged the Senate to give the matter “its usual expeditious consideration.”
Following the presentation, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, instructing them to screen Chukwu and report back within two weeks.
In a related development, President Tinubu has approved the appointments of board chairmen and members for several federal government agencies.
According to a statement released on Friday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, boards have been constituted for the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who was appointed in July, remains chair of the UBEC Board. Other appointments include Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem representing the South East, Gift Ngo for the South South, Mrs. Ibiwunmi Akinnola for the South West, Dr. Meiro Mandara for the North East, Dr. Abdu Imam Saulawa for the North West, and Professor Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro for the North Central. The board chairman and members are set to serve an initial four-year term.
Additionally, President Tinubu confirmed Muhammad Babangida as chairman and Ayo Sotinrin as managing director of the Bank of Agriculture, as had been previously announced.
