While many advocate for teaching how to fish over simply providing the fish, it’s crucial to recognize that some rely on immediate assistance to sustain themselves. However, the true empowerment comes when the government offers both opportunities – providing fish to the vulnerable for immediate needs and offering fishing nets to those ready to sustain themselves.

This approach ensures a comprehensive strategy that caters to the immediate necessities while empowering others for long-term self-sufficiency.

Amidst these efforts, President Tinubu’s recent supervision of the accelerated performance agreement signing between Nigeria and Germany at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai stands out. The agreement for the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) signifies a monumental leap towards enhancing electricity supply nationwide, benefiting countless Nigerians.

Formerly known as the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap Initiative and initiated in 2018 through discussions between former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Nigerian authorities, the project faced implementation challenges in previous administrations.

President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to expedite this project has redefined the trajectory towards its realization. The agreement outlines an 18 to 24-month timeline to modernize and expand Nigeria’s power transmission grid, promising improved supply across the country. Notably, it emphasizes the electrification of economic and industrial hubs, crucial for their development.

Moreover, the agreement prioritizes technology transfer and training for Nigerian engineers, fostering skill development for sustainable management. Siemens Energy’s delivery of vital equipment worth over 63 million Euros underlines tangible progress achieved since the project’s inception. The potential impact on power transmission holds promises to uplift ordinary Nigerians, address electricity shortages, and bolster key economic sectors.

Each summit attended by the president presents numerous such opportunities, far more than can be enumerated here. Instead of relying on selling houses to escape to foreign lands amid global economic challenges, it’s time to prepare your fishing tools to tap into the abundance of forthcoming opportunities.
