Onanuga made this statement on Thursday in response to public concerns regarding the economic difficulties resulting from certain government policies. He noted that Nigerians have shown impatience in waiting for the outcomes of the government’s reform efforts.
Acknowledging the current weaknesses in the economy, Onanuga emphasized that the reforms aim to create a more productive economic environment. He referred to various reports on Vision 2010 and Vision 202, highlighting the inefficiencies and vulnerabilities within the economy.
“If we do not implement these reforms, we risk ending up like Somalia,” he cautioned. He added that the government’s efforts are focused on transitioning from a consumption-driven economy, heavily reliant on subsidies, to one that fosters productivity.
