Titled “Request for Investigation of False Allegations and Sustained Campaign of Calumny Against my Person by Unknown Elements,” the letter, dated January 9, 2023, details Mr. Gbajabiamila’s concerns over a relentless effort, especially on social media, to disseminate baseless accusations of corruption, malfeasance, and abuse of office against him over the last six months.

In the letter, Mr. Gbajabiamila highlights his extensive service in the Nigerian government, both in the legislative and executive branches, emphasizing his commitment to probity in managing public resources. As the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, he presided over the national budget without any blemishes.

Despite his inclination to ignore such attacks as political mischief, Mr. Gbajabiamila feels compelled to act due to the aggressive nature of the campaign and the potential transformation of falsehoods into perceived truths if left unchallenged.

Expressing his confidence in his own conduct, he requests the SSS to investigate the sources and substance of the false allegations, urging that accusers be unmasked or face consequences for their libel.
