The former Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri, who was recently abducted by unknown gunmen, has strongly refuted social media reports suggesting that his release was facilitated by the tactical intervention of the Nigerian Police Force………CONTINUE READING
According to Eze Ohiri, he paid an undisclosed ransom in two installments during his 12-day captivity in the kidnappers’ hideout. Contrary to social media claims, he asserted that there was no police intervention while he was held captive.
In a statement delivered at his palace, Eze Ohiri insisted that the police played no role in securing his freedom. He expressed his dissatisfaction with organizations using government affiliations to spread misinformation and inflate their own importance, stating, “I wouldn’t have spoken out, but I feel compelled to reveal the truth due to the widespread misinformation on social media.”
Recounting his harrowing experience, Eze Ohiri shared that he returned to celebrate the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year with his family and community in Obi Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, and Imo State. However, on January 6, 2024, he was abducted by what he described as “merciless individuals.”
He detailed the circumstances, stating that he encountered armed men at his palace early in the morning, who forcibly took him after a struggle. Fortunately, his cousin cleverly identified himself as the driver, securing his release. Blindfolded and transported to an undisclosed location, Eze Ohiri spent the initial days in an uncompleted building before being moved elsewhere.
Eze Ohiri revealed that his captors, initially seemingly motivated by personal scores against traditional rulers and politicians, later received instructions from their leader not to harm him. Negotiations ensued between his representatives and the kidnappers, ultimately leading to his freedom after the payment of two ransom installments.
During his captivity, Eze Ohiri endured difficult conditions, surviving on minimal sustenance such as water, two wraps of gala, and occasionally bread with water at night. He characterized his abductors as merciless, emphasizing the challenging circumstances he faced during the ordeal.
