Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole exemplifies the true spirit of Ubuntu through his enduring friendship with President Tinubu. The former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oshiomhole has consistently demonstrated the virtues of unwavering loyalty and trust in their relationship.
Adams Oshiomhole emerged as the first person to move forward and lend his support to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu during the APC presidential primary process last year, despite several obstacles. In fact, Oshiomhole was the first to give up his bid for the Jagaban
It is interesting that after first announcing his own presidential ambitions, Oshiomhole subsequently withdrew from the contest to lend his entire support to President Tinubu, his political mentor, colleague, and benefactor.
However, their friendship has faced its fair share of challenges. When Tinubu was the governor of Lagos State, Oshiomhole, then-president of the NLC, got himself entangled in labour disputes there.
This experience gave Oshiomhole, a labour activist at the time, insight into Tinubu’s character and commitment to the labour movement. During this time, Oshiomhole developed a thorough understanding of Tinubu’s philosophy of instilling responsibility in people and allowing them to reap the benefits of their hard work.
Years later, as the Governor of Edo State, Oshiomhole proudly followed in the footsteps of Tinubu by adopting and implementing the successful governance strategies and legacies left by his esteemed friend during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.
Throughout his own tenure as Governor, Oshiomhole received steadfast support from Tinubu, who stood by his side during the fight against the federal PDP in order to reclaim Oshiomhole’s stolen mandate.
Friendship thrives on loyalty, and Oshiomhole’s resolute support for Tinubu resulted in his eventual departure as the National Chairman of the APC, as he faced opposition from those who disagreed with his steadfast commitment to Tinubu’s cause.
At this juncture, it is essential to define loyalty within the context of their relationship.
Loyalty in friendship encompasses a strong commitment and inflexible faithfulness to a friend. It is built upon trust, reliability, and dependability. A loyal friend stands by your side consistently, offering support and staying true to their promises.
Oshiomhole has always been a trailblazer, someone who prioritizes the welfare of the people. During the recent presidential campaign, it was revealed that Tinubu encouraged Oshiomhole to actively participate in his presidential campaign rather than pursue his own senatorial ambitions.
According to Bush Radio sources, Oshiomhole convinced Tinubu that if he were to be on the ballot, those who supported him would also vote for Tinubu, creating a win-win situation for both.
No wonder, during his own presidential campaigns, Oshiomhole’s actions spoke louder than words as he practically campaigned for Tinubu. His tenacious dedication to Tinubu’s cause was evident in his speeches, rallies, and public appearances.
Oshiomhole firmly believed that Tinubu’s leadership was what the nation needed, and he made it his mission to convey that message to the people.
His deep conviction and active involvement in promoting Tinubu’s candidacy showcased the depth of their friendship and Oshiomhole’s steadfast commitment to supporting his friend’s journey to the top.
As Oshiomhole assumes his new role as a Senator, it is expected that their relationship will continue to flourish, bringing mutual benefits to both friends and contributing to the progress and betterment of the nation.
