Tinubu’s New Diplomatic Moves Spark Buzz As Fani-Kayode, Enang Get Fresh Assignments

Fani-Kayode disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that he personally requested the change in posting for personal reasons and because he had spent most of his life in Europe.

According to the former aviation minister, he preferred South Africa because it aligns more closely with his views on foreign affairs, Pan-Africanism, and political ideology.

He also noted that South Africa’s position as Africa’s largest economy and its close relationship with Nigeria made the country a more suitable diplomatic destination for him.

Fani-Kayode expressed gratitude to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and President Tinubu for approving his request.

He equally appreciated Senator Ita Enang, who had originally been posted to South Africa but agreed to swap assignments and proceed to Germany instead.

The former minister also dismissed reports claiming Germany rejected his nomination, describing the reports as false, malicious, and aimed at damaging his reputation and embarrassing the Federal Government.

According to him, the rumours were fabricated by an online platform that relied on gossip and sensationalism, insisting that no official rejection was ever issued by the German authorities.

Fani-Kayode said the matter has been reported to security agencies and disclosed that his lawyers have been instructed to pursue legal action against those behind the publication.

He further explained that confusion arose after documents relating to his redeployment request to South Africa were leaked shortly after they were sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ambassador-designate added that he looks forward to serving Nigeria in South Africa, a country he described as historically inspiring and highly respected.
