Oshiomhole emphasized that Nigerians are still grappling with the enduring consequences of failed policies from the Buhari-led government. He expressed his commitment to prioritizing Nigeria’s national interest over political party considerations, stating, “If there is a conflict between what I consider to be Nigeria’s national interest and a political party or any other organization I belong to, I have no hesitation in subordinating my party interest to the bigger national interest.”
The senator distanced himself from certain policies of the previous administration, criticizing what he perceived as reckless measures that inflicted hardship on the population. He highlighted that other governors also opposed these policies and took legal actions against them.
Oshiomhole clarified Tinubu’s limited role in the government, noting that Tinubu was neither a minister nor an adviser and did not engage in contracts during that period. Therefore, Oshiomhole argued, Tinubu cannot be held accountable for the government’s actions, whether right or wrong.
Oshiomhole’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Tinubu-led government to revive Nigeria’s struggling economy. Widespread protests have erupted across the country in response to the escalating prices of essential goods, making them unaffordable for many Nigerians.
