In a statement released on Tuesday, WHO outlined that the funds will support the implementation of key activities detailed in the global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP), which was released on August 26. The SPRP is designed to guide the global response to Mpox, focusing on surveillance, research, equitable access to medical countermeasures, and community engagement.
Following the declaration of a global emergency on August 14, WHO has specified that the $87.4 million is needed from September 2024 to February 2025 to effectively manage the outbreak.
