As the Naira experiences a recent decline against major currencies worldwide, it appears that some Nigerian elites are contributing to the issue by hoarding foreign currency in domiciliary banks and homes. A more distressing report surrounding this matter has surfaced, courtesy of Temitope Ajayi.
Ajayi, sharing the information on his X handle, disclosed, “Against clear provisions of Nigeria’s laws and CBN Act 2007, a Group Chief Executive of one of the country’s top 3 banks set up a university in his home state, and the school announced school fees in dollars. It is illegal to price goods and services in Nigeria in any currency other than Naira, which is our legal tender.”
