Speaking in a phone conversation from Ilorin on Tuesday morning, Olayinka emphasized the comprehensive nature of the strike, stating, “It is a total strike in the state, and workers have been directed to sit at home.
He further highlighted the strategic monitoring of the strike to prevent union leaders from potential arrest by authorities.
Reports from Ilorin, the state capital, indicated the impact of the strike on public schools, where pupils and students were turned back.
Some private schools closed their gates, while a few remained open. Additionally, government offices experienced a deserted atmosphere as workers participated in the indefinite strike on its first day.
The strike has elicited mixed reactions, with opposing and supportive views expressed. Afolabi Okunlola.
a retired local government staff in the state, criticized the strike, suggesting that the labour movement should have pursued an appeal after the National Industrial Court ruling or engaged in dialogue with the Federal Government, rather than disregarding the court order.
