Trabzonspor Coach Breaks Silence On Paul Onuachu Injury, Eases Fans’ Fears
Trabzonspor interim head coach, Huseyin Cimsir, has allayed concerns over the fitness of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu after the forward was substituted during the club’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig.
Onuachu was forced to leave the pitch in the 44th minute after sustaining a chin injury following a physical challenge. His early departure sparked concerns over his availability for Trabzonspor’s upcoming league fixture and Nigeria’s forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Bush Radio Academy, however, Cimsir has played down fears surrounding the injury, insisting that the problem does not appear to be serious.
The coach suggested that there was no major cause for concern and that Onuachu’s condition would be assessed ahead of the club’s next match.
The injury occurred after Onuachu enjoyed a strong individual performance against Genclerbirligi, scoring twice to end a five-match goal drought across all competitions.
The 32-year-old Nigerian opened the scoring within the opening minutes before Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to put Trabzonspor further ahead.
Onuachu struck again in the 22nd minute to complete his brace, while Ernest Muci and substitute Franculino Dju also got on the scoresheet as Trabzonspor cruised to a convincing victory.
The result provided a major boost for Trabzonspor as the Turkish Cup holders continue their campaign after a relatively slow start to the season.
The club is expected to continue monitoring Onuachu’s condition before next weekend’s league encounter against Konyaspor, with his fitness also likely to be closely watched ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international commitments.
