Naija News reported earlier that the Emirate Council withdrew Umar’s title on Wednesday for allegedly showing disrespect towards Governor Bala Mohammed. This action followed Umar’s recent press briefing, where he accused Mohammed of diverting palliative items—such as rice, corn, and fertilizer—intended to ease economic hardship in the state.
In response, Umar expressed his astonishment in a letter to the Emir of Bauchi, urging the council to avoid being entangled in political conflicts that benefit politicians rather than the public. He clarified that his comments about Governor Mohammed were aimed at defending President Bola Tinubu, not insulting the governor.
Umar stated, “I was deeply shocked to receive a letter dated August 14, 2024, informing me of the Bauchi Emirate Council’s decision to withdraw my traditional title. This decision was based on the allegation that I insulted Governor Bala Mohammed during a political rally.”
He explained that his remarks were a reaction to the governor’s criticisms of President Tinubu, which he felt were intended to undermine the president and stir public dissent. Umar highlighted that the governor’s accusations against Tinubu were politically motivated and unsubstantiated. He pointed out that despite receiving significant federal funds, Bauchi State continues to suffer from poverty.
Umar expressed regret over the council’s decision and the lack of a fair hearing but accepted the outcome with humility. He called for the Emirate Council to steer clear of political disputes and to focus on the welfare of the people. Umar concluded by wishing the Emir of Bauchi long life and continued wise leadership.
