Yunusa was reportedly attacked on Thursday, August 27, 2026, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

The Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Afusat Saliu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.

According to Saliu, the attack occurred at about 5:00 p.m. when the assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists travelling along the highway.

The driver, identified as Yunusa, was found dead inside the vehicle, while another occupant was reportedly abducted by the attackers and taken into the bush.

The police spokesperson said security operatives had been mobilised, in collaboration with other security agencies, to search the surrounding forests for the abducted victim and track down the perpetrators.
