American actor RJ Mitte, widely recognised for playing Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed television series Breaking Bad, has reportedly died at the age of 34.

Mitte died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas, according to reports confirming the development. His representative confirmed his death to CBS News but did not disclose the cause.

A Cameron County official also confirmed that investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.

Mitte rose to international prominence through his portrayal of Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s central character in Breaking Bad. He appeared in 56 episodes of the award-winning drama, which aired from 2008 to 2013 and followed a terminally ill chemistry teacher who became involved in the production and distribution of illegal drugs.

His work on the series earned him and his fellow cast members a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2014, recognising the show’s final season.

Beyond his acting career, Mitte was widely recognised for his advocacy for people with disabilities. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three, he used his public platform to promote awareness, accessibility and inclusion, particularly within the entertainment industry.

In 2014, he received the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award, an honour named after the pioneering actor who became the first performer with a disability to win an Academy Award.

Mitte also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, supporting initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities.

His acting credits extended beyond Breaking Bad to include projects such as The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).

Outside the entertainment industry, Mitte served as president of The Mitte Foundation, his family’s Austin-based charitable organisation, which supports marginalised communities in South Texas. He was living in Brownsville at the time of his reported death.

His passing comes approximately a year after he became engaged to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez. He reportedly proposed to her during the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California, in 2025, an event organised to raise funds for United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Mitte’s death marks a significant loss for fans of Breaking Bad and the disability advocacy community. While tributes may focus on his memorable television role, his work promoting disability awareness and inclusion also formed an important part of his legacy. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances.
