Court Strikes Out Eight-Count Charge Against Man Accused Of Impersonating PFIPC Director-General

The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count charge against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar granted the request on Monday after the Federal Government applied to terminate the existing proceedings, explaining that the alleged offences fell within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified legal deficiencies in the original charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Oyedepo explained that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency involved offences that should be prosecuted before the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He further told the court that the government had already filed a fresh charge before the FCT High Court and intended to arraign Adeyemi without delay.

Following the explanation, the prosecution asked Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law. Adeyemi’s counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application.

The judge subsequently granted the request and struck out the eight-count charge, paving the way for the Federal Government to continue the prosecution before the appropriate court.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 over allegations of conspiracy and forgery. The two co-defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, were reportedly still at large.

The fresh charge is expected to form the basis of Adeyemi’s arraignment before the FCT High Court.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the court’s decision followed the prosecution’s request over jurisdictional concerns and deficiencies in the original charge. The striking out of the case does not amount to a determination of Adeyemi’s guilt or innocence, as the government intends to pursue the allegations through fresh proceedings before the FCT High Court.
