Comrade Emmanuel Nwizi, the father of one of the injured students, reported that the explosion was allegedly caused by an Android phone brought into the kitchen by a student. Nwizi, who works for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Abakaliki, shared that five of the injured students are currently on life support in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit. Parents are collaborating with the school’s administration to ensure the students receive optimal care.

His daughter, Miss Chisom Nwizi, suffered severe burns and had only recently enrolled at the school last month. The State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident but did not provide further details. Meanwhile, sources from the school indicated that the Catholic Reverend Sisters managing the institution are actively working to support the injured students.
