Two teenage girls hailing from the Kofa community in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State tragically lost their lives in a canoe accident at Kota dam.
The Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Tafa, Hussaini Abubakar, confirmed the incident to the Daily Trust on Monday, April 15, 2024. He revealed that the mishap occurred around 5 pm on Saturday when the victims, accompanied by two other girls, embarked on a canoe journey to visit the nearby Kadau community for Sallah festivities.
Abubakar further stated that while the two other girls and the canoe operator were rescued, they were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Narrating the ordeal, a fisherman named Abdul Gambo recounted that he was mending his own canoe by the dam’s bank when he heard cries for help. Rushing to the scene with his canoe and assisted by others, they managed to rescue three individuals, retrieving two lifeless bodies from the water.
