Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, officially verified the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, citing the incident’s occurrence on a Friday.

Irelewuyi attributed the likely cause of the accident to excessive speeding and a subsequent loss of control. The collision involved an unidentified commercial driver steering a Mercedes truck with the registration number XD131NSH.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, navigating at high speed, lost control of the vehicle, ultimately colliding with a substantial roadside gutter, resulting in a devastating crash.

The accident claimed the lives of both occupants, identified as two adult males – the driver and the conductor. Promptly, compassionate individuals conveyed the deceased victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary, Ihiala, before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team.

The diligent FRSC rescue team efficiently cleared the expressway of debris, restoring normalcy to both human and vehicular movement.

Expressing condolences to the grieving families, the Sector Commander cautioned motorists against reckless speeding and urged adherence to safe speed limits.

In his words, “Let’s drive to stay alive; road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” emphasized Irelewuyi, underscoring the collective duty to prioritize safety on the roads.
