Tragic Electrocution Incident Claims Lives Of Mother, Son, And Other In Ogun....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A tragic incident occurred at Mowe market in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, where a mother, her son, and another individual were reportedly electrocuted. The incident took place on Monday, shortly after the electricity distribution company restored power following a Sunday rainstorm.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the electric shock originated from a step-down transformer suspended on an electrical pole near the shop where the tragedy unfolded, coinciding with the arrival of shop owners for their daily sales.
The unfortunate event resulted in the electrocution of a female trader, her son, and one other person, with four additional individuals sustaining injuries.
Segun Soneye, the Director of Information of Obafemi Owode Local Government, confirmed the incident, stating that the woman was tragically burnt to ashes. Soneye attributed the cause of the incident to the construction of shops made of iron under the powerline by the traders.
In response, the Council Chairman, Lanre Ogunsola, visited the affected shop owners to express condolences and issued a seven-day ultimatum for the evacuation of makeshift shops constructed under high-tension powerlines to prevent similar occurrences.
Furthermore, the council boss visited other victims receiving treatment at Mowe Health Post, assuring them of government-funded medical care.
Although Police Spokesman Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, she stated that only the mother, identified as Ujuwa Okechukwu, had succumbed to the electrocution. She noted that four injured victims were currently undergoing treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
