The hardest-hit areas include Kichinga (the birthplace of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri), Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam.
Hon. Simon Musa, the Executive Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, confirmed the disaster in a statement released over the weekend. He noted that some of these areas had never previously experienced such severe flooding.
Thousands of displaced individuals are currently taking refuge in ten temporary camps set up in response to the crisis. Musa explained that the flooding was caused by heavy rainfall on the Mandara mountain, which led to erosion and damage to the Shuwa Bridge, as well as the destruction of homes, food supplies, and farmland.
He called on federal and state governments, as well as humanitarian organizations, to provide immediate aid to the affected communities.
Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi, the Village Head of Shuwa, described the situation as “unfortunate and tragic” and urged the government to take decisive action and support the distressed communities.
