The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God delivered this message during a televised sermon that has since gone viral, prompting him to trend on social media platform X.

“I want to sincerely apologize for my earlier statement that those who don’t pay tithe might not enter heaven. Sorry, that’s incorrect,” Pastor Adeboye stated, prompting murmurs of surprise from his congregation.

Amidst the reaction, he continued, “That’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘Be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”

He elaborated, noting that “it’s possible to be both right and wrong at the same time.” He illustrated this point by reflecting on how many assumptions we have held in the past only to discover we were mistaken over time.

“For years, we believed that light travels in a straight line. Is that accurate?… Eventually, we learned it doesn’t travel in a straight rod; it travels in waves,” he explained.

Despite admitting his error regarding the necessity of tithing for salvation, he went on to say that beginners should give 10 percent, while more experienced members should contribute even more.

“It is incorrect to limit your giving to just ten percent,” he remarked, emphasizing that some individuals should be donating “20 percent, 30 percent.”
