Truth Behind The Arrest: DSS Exposes Reason Sultan Was Taken In Kaduna
The Department of State Services (DSS) has explained that the arrest of Kaduna-based social media activist, Abubakar Muhammad, popularly known as Sultan, stemmed from a formal complaint alleging he used fake online accounts to harass and extort a citizen.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the Kaduna Command, Sultan was apprehended on September 27, 2025, at Layin Dan-Masani, Rigachikun, in Igabi Local Government Area.
Investigations reportedly uncovered that he operated fake accounts with the handles @OZugwai40986 on X (formerly Twitter) and @Zugwai75 on Instagram, through which he allegedly threatened the complainant and demanded payment via a cryptocurrency wallet and a Point of Sales (POS) account.
The complainant, who said he feared for his safety and that of his family, further alleged that Sultan attempted to lure him to an undisclosed location using other catfish accounts—raising suspicions of a possible kidnap attempt.
Though Sultan deleted the accounts when he realised the DSS was tracking him, cyber experts from the Service were able to retrieve them from his device.
“Investigators recovered digital footprints, payment records, and conversations linking him directly to the alleged offences, all of which will be presented in court,” a DSS source confirmed.
The Command dismissed claims of political undertones, stressing that the arrest was strictly a cybercrime matter aimed at protecting citizens.
Sultan’s detention has sparked widespread debate online—while some of his supporters allege political persecution, others argue that the case should be left for the courts to decide.
The DSS said preparations are underway to charge the suspect in court for cybercrime, extortion, and issuing threats to life.
