Farotimi was released from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre on Tuesday morning after meeting his bail conditions.
His release came following a ruling by the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti last Friday, which set his bail at ₦30 million with two sureties.
Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun specified that one of the sureties must be a responsible citizen with property within the court’s jurisdiction.
Farotimi was also required to submit his international passport and refrain from giving media interviews while his trial is ongoing.
Speaking to his supporters after his release, Farotimi stated, “In my public advocacy and my fight against the corrupt system we live in, I have never lied about anyone. If I don’t know something, I will simply admit it.”
Farotimi stressed that truth is the most powerful tool for enacting meaningful change in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has rejected a petition filed by Emmanuel Chambers, the law firm of legal luminary Chief Afe Babalola SAN, seeking the revocation of Farotimi’s law license.
The petition, submitted by Ola Faro, accused Farotimi of criminal defamation and professional misconduct related to statements made in his book Nigeria and the Criminal Justice System.
The book allegedly made claims about corruption and unethical practices within Nigeria’s judiciary, specifically referencing a Supreme Court case. The petition accused Farotimi of distorting facts and interfering with justice for personal gain.
