In a video circulating online, the visibly irate Minister condemned the negligence, emphasizing that such lapses are unacceptable, particularly during the harmattan season when fire outbreaks are more frequent and often devastating.

When the officer attempted to explain, Tunji-Ojo dismissed the reason as “stupid,” highlighting the team’s lack of readiness. He stressed that firefighters must always be fully prepared and strategically positioned near high-risk, high-traffic areas to respond promptly to emergencies.

Tunji-Ojo further reminded the officer that, like all public servants, firefighters are funded by taxpayers and are expected to perform their duties without excuses. Their responsibility, he said, is to remain alert, equipped, and ready to protect lives and property at all times.

Meanwhile, the Minister also directed the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) to resolve issues faced by applicants trying to check their status in the ongoing paramilitary recruitment.

Acknowledging complaints from applicants unable to access updates due to glitches on the recruitment portal, Tunji-Ojo instructed the Board’s Secretary to ensure all uploads are completed promptly, assuring that a resolution to the technical issues is underway.
