The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with 57 bags of rice tainted with chaff. ASP Sharif Sa’ad, the command’s spokesperson, verified the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that the suspects, 35-year-old Bashir Haruna of Dubai quarters Gombe and 54-year-old Mohammed Isah of Jibulu quarters Kumo, admitted to blending bags of rice with chaff and selling them……….CONTINUE READING
“On 24th February 2024, at about 11:00 am, officers from Akko Division, acting on reliable information, intercepted and detained the aforementioned suspects in possession of 57 bags containing a mixture of rice and chaff. The suspects intended to deceive the public by selling it as genuine rice at market price.
“During the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the act of mixing bags with this concoction and subsequently selling them,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, has instructed that the two suspects face legal charges. He also urged the public to exercise caution and vigilance when purchasing grains in sacks to prevent falling prey to such fraudulent schemes.
In another development, the Bauchi State Police Command has issued a wanted notice for Dr. Idris Abdul’azeez, a controversial Islamic cleric, on charges of ‘Contempt of Court.’ The Police, as reported by Daily Post, is actively seeking the cleric’s whereabouts.
