Police Prosecutor ASP Francis Igbinosa filed a five-count charge against them, accusing them of conspiring with others to commit crimes including obtaining money under false pretenses, theft, trial by ordeal, assault, and conduct likely to breach the peace. The charges state that Olasode, Aboloyinijo, and their accomplices deceived Umeh into paying N8 million by falsely claiming they could protect her and her children through charms and rituals. They are also accused of assaulting Umeh and her children by making incisions on their bodies and causing a disturbance by burning charms in her compound.

The charges are punishable under sections 168d, 172, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants pleaded not guilty. Magistrate A.O. Gbajumo granted them bail of N750,000 each, with two sureties required to provide proof of livelihood and identification. The case was adjourned to October 14, 2024, for trial.
