A Ugandan couple, Mr. and Mrs. Odong, have bravely shared their journey of acceptance regarding their son, Andrew, who identifies as a gay man.
Andrew, who tied the knot with his Nigerian partner, Tosin Ojutalayo, garnered attention with their picturesque wedding in France back in May 2023, an event that Andrew’s parents attended with pride.
In a recent podcast featuring the Odongs alongside their son, they shed light on their unwavering support for Andrew, emphasizing their refusal to let his sexual orientation strain their familial bond.
Andrew’s father affirmed his understanding that Andrew’s sexual orientation is an inherent part of who he is, asserting, “It is what you are. You are not going to change for somebody, even for your parents. If that is what you are.”
Echoing her husband’s sentiments, Andrew’s mother expressed her acknowledgment that her son being gay does not equate to illness or a shortened lifespan. She emphasized that love transcends all boundaries and declared her unwavering commitment to her children, stating, “It’s just love. I can’t see myself dumping my child for love. Tosin and Andrew, as I know them, are my children. They will remain my children for the rest of my life until I pass away.”
