According to PANDEF spokesperson Mr. Ken Robinson, when the government fails in protecting citizens, the alternative might be self-defense. He highlighted the establishment of vigilante groups in different regions of Nigeria, emphasizing the need for citizens to protect themselves. PANDEF presented a regional security blueprint to South-South governors in November 2020, echoing similar efforts in other parts of the country.

Robinson emphasized that the Chief of Army Staff’s concern about citizens bearing arms leading to anarchy underscores the urgency for the government to meet its responsibility of ensuring citizens’ safety. He cited security challenges in Plateau, Zamfara, and parts of Kaduna as unacceptable, urging security agencies and governments to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

The PANDEF spokesperson advocated for increased police recruitment but opposed the inclusion of repentant Boko Haram members in the Army, describing it as a grave mistake by the government. He firmly stated that recruiting such individuals into the Nigerian Army is entirely unacceptable.
